This module is for Ultrasound Qualified Practitioners who wish to attain competency within the field of breast ultrasound. Students should have regular access to a breast imaging department and participate in weekly breast ultrasound clinics.

Upon successful completion of this module and the Clinical Breast Evaluation (AHP_7_119) module, the student will be able to perform breast ultrasound examinations within breast symptomatic and assessment clinics.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding:   

• Apply the knowledge and understanding underpinning the practice of ultrasound breast examinations as specified in the RCR US training recommendations (2012).

Intellectual skills:

• Reflect critically and correlate ultrasound findings with clinical assessment outcomes and other processes of the triple assessment of breast clinic patients.

Practical Skills:

• Competently perform breast ultrasound examinations whilst producing an accurate record of the examination and outcome.
• Competently gain the patient’s consent and develop the communication skills to support the patient’s psychological requirements.

Transferable skills:

• Engage confidently in academic and professional communication with others.
• Engage in reflective practice.
