Course overview

The importance of leadership skills as distinct from management skills is increasingly being recognised within Health and Social Care organisations. Practice Educators in Health and Social Care have an identified specialist skills set determined by the professional standards and scope of practice. It is essential that those educators with a leadership role or those aspiring to become leaders in the future are encouraged to develop appropriate skills to enable them to perform as effective leaders and develop strategies to implement innovation, learning and change in their area of practice.


Available as a standalone module: No, applicants need to have successfully completed Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (5966), which can be found and applied for on the CPPD prospectus.

The module will support a practice educator to develop a project for change and to be able to navigate the complexities of change in the practice setting. Confidence building, understanding the change process, understanding impact of the practice culture and context. 


Assessment

  • A 30-minute presentation plus 10 minutes for questions from the panel.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding:     

  • Appraise literature and research on educational leadership and change to develop strategies for innovatory service delivery 

Intellectual skills:

  • Evaluate complex innovation and change strategies and processes, considering the needs of a diverse interprofessional workforce and the impact on service users and carers as end users of the service
  • Critically appraise the impact of own leadership style on others 

Practical Skills:

  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills in the current practice education environment
  • Implement enhanced communication skills to deliver innovation and change in their service area.
  • Evaluate and implement resource management strategies 

Transferable skills:

  • Demonstrate the ability to be a leader
  • Managing change through project implementation
